About Equifax

Equifax is a credit bureau with headquarters in Atalanta, Georgia. They are the ones that come up with your credit score, based on all the information they gather about you. When a consumer applies for a loan, be it a house, car, a credit card, a personal loan from a bank and so on, the lender requests information from Equifax. Equifax will then send over the credit report and credit score to the lender. Based on that credit history the lender can then make a decision to give you a loan, or not give you one, and what your interest rate will be.

Generally speaking, here are the factors considered in credit scoring calculations. Depending on the scoring model used, the weight each factor carries as far as impacting a credit score may vary.

  • The number of accounts you have
  • The types of accounts
  • Your used credit vs. your available credit
  • The length of your credit history
  • Your payment history

If you find any inaccuracies in your credit report it is possible to dispute them and remove negative items, thus improving your credit score. Anybody can file a dispute with Equifax, but it is a lengthy and fairly complicated process best left to professionals.
